Modern silicone moulded parts

With its modern machinery, the poesia group produces high-performance profiles made of TPE and silicone for a wide variety of applications and industries.

The company has years of specialised knowledge, working extremely efficiently and reliably to make its customers’ individual requirements a reality.

Moulded parts using the LSR injection moulding process
(liquid silicone rubber)

The liquid two-component silicone is fed under pressure to a mixing block using a multi-component mixing and dosing system. The material conveyed there separately is then mixed at a ratio of 1:1. A mixer feeds the material under pressure to the cylinder. To prevent premature vulcanisation, the special LSR screw unit is tempered to approx. 20 to 25 °C. From the cylinder, the LSR enters the tool via a cold runner. Due to the high temperatures in the mould (170 to 220 °C), the LSR is vulcanised within seconds. Once vulcanisation is complete, the tool is opened and the finished part is removed. When producing LSR injection mould parts, it has to be considered that the injection moulding machine is designed for the processing of liquid silicone. Poesia uses horizontal and vertical injection moulding machines for its production.

Solid silicone moulded parts

The moulding process is suitable for a wide range of applications. Solid silicone is vulcanised into moulds by heat and pressure through one of two processes: compression or transfer moulding. The plate presses are hydraulically operated and heating is done electrically or by steam. For vulcanisation, a mould temperature of about 150 to 220 °C is usually selected. The vulcanisation time is determined by the tool temperature and the thickness of the moulded parts. Solid silicone end products may include: placemats, trivets, ice cube trays, chocolate moulds.

Properties of silicone profiles and moulded parts

Finished vulcanised silicone products do not usually need to be reworked. In order to meet the special requirements in certain applications, however, the parts/profiles must be subjected to tempering. This means that they heated at very high temperatures for a defined period of time. After tempering, the items demonstrate an improvement in mechanical properties and volatiles are eliminated. Especially in applications that come into contact with food or drinking water, tempering is mandatory to comply with legal requirements (e.g. FDA, BfR, WRC and KTW).

The FDA and BfR labels confirm that the items used in food production have the necessary approval and, among other things, chemical resistance to food.

The KTW and WRC labels confirm that neither the substances nor the materials used for the supply of drinking water will leach unwanted substances into the water.

Thanks to special production processes, all products made by Poesia meet the necessary specifications for KTW, WRC, FDA and BfR labels.

Properties and products

For the production of large quantities and to meet high demands while maintaining constant product quality, injection moulding is an important method for silicone processing. It is characterised by its high dimensional accuracy and supplies parts manufactured in a fully automated process. Poesia manufactures gaskets, membranes, door stops and dog, cat and horse brushes using injection moulding. Other applications include baby toys, medical technology, the automotive industry, sanitary engineering, household technology, the electrical industry etc.
