Seals made from bio-based thermoplastic

For years, the poesia group has been investing a lot of know-how, money and time in order to produce ecologically. With seals made of bio-based thermoplastic, the innovative company is now going one step further.

Already at the beginning of the year, the poesia group presented seals at a trade fair, which it produces as a novelty in Unterkulm from bio-based thermoplastic (TPE). The visitors were extremely curious, because sustainability and ecology are also in demand in the construction industry.

Sustainable alternative
Currently, six profiles - or different seals - are available in the Bio-TPE version as an alternative to oil-based TPE seals. Almost all geometries are available on request. Of the current range, practically all seals can be produced from bio-based TPE. Bio-TPE seals have the same quality and functions as oil-based TPE seals. But they are even more sustainable and ecological. The bio-based TPE seals are also recyclable. The seals are made of bio-based thermoplastic with a bio content of 40%.

For sustainable building owners
The seals made of bio-TPE are installed in doors and windows and protect against cold, heat, draughts and sound. And they do so just as effectively and reliably as seals made of oil-based TPE. They can be used in new doors and windows as well as replacement seals.

Innovation and spirit of the times
With this innovation, the poesia group is one of the first companies to produce seals from bio-based material. The idea was turned into reality in close cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW and the Institute for Plastics Technology in Windisch. After the one-year development and testing period, with 999,999 test door openings and closings, the official market launch took place at the end of 2022.

The new ecologically sound seals fit in perfectly with the corporate philosophy of the Poesia Group, which attaches great importance to ecology and environmental protection. For example, the lion's share of the electricity required comes from the company's own photovoltaic system. In addition, the poesia group uses water from its own spring.

Already available in small quantities
The gaskets made of bio-based thermoplastic are available in small quantities starting at 1 metre. Custom-made products are available from a minimum purchase of 300 metres in length.

The poesia group employs around 70 people, including six apprentices. It operates at its main site in Unterkulm and at external sites in Hochdorf and Urdorf. It produces seals made of TPE and silicone for applications in the construction, engineering, transport and food industries.
